International Association of Aerospace Workers and Machinists (IAM) was founded on the 5th day of May 1888. Together, 19 machinists met in a locomotive pit in Atlanta, GA, they voted to form a trade union. Machinists earned 20 to 25 cents an hour for 10-hour day.
73 years later, your Local 601 was Chartered on the 8th day of November 1961. The local Lodge (LL) is the home for all Machinists and Aerospace workers in the State of Alaska.
Today there are 3 Local Lodges in Alaska who are chartered under the IAM. They are LL 601, LL1735, LL1690 and LL251
Local 601 supports approximately 800 Union Brothers and Sisters working in eight airports in the great state of Alaska.
